
A beautiful scaled handcrafted museum quality ship model of the Santa Maria. The model is scratch built by a set of plans, made out of american cherry, and black walnut wood. The model is 24 1/2" long, 12" wide, and 22 1/4" high. The model comes with a craddle, the model is also made to lift off the craddle so that it can be handled. The model also comes with a Certificate Of Authenticity. All the gold parts on the model is coated with 23 Karat German Gold Leaf.
The Santa María was the largest of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus in his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. Her master and owner was Juan de la Cosa. The Santa was a small carrack, or "Nao" around 70 feet, and was used as the flagship for the expedition. She carried 40 men. In 1492, in the middle of the expedition, the ship ran aground and was abandoned.
